Mayfield Wildcats Varsity built a five-run lead in the second inning and then held off Twinsburg’s charge for a 13-11 victory on Tuesday. Twinsburg tallied nine runs in the failed comeback. Bussey, Bryant, Kimmel, Barnes, Tonelli, and Kimmel fueled the rally with RBIs.
Joshua Cope led Mayfield Wildcats Varsity to victory by driving in four runs. Cope went 2-for-4 at the plate. Cope drove in runs on a single in the second and a double in the third.
Mayfield Wildcats Varsity captured the lead in the second inning when Riley Canitia tripled on a 2-2 count, scoring three runs.
After Mayfield Wildcats Varsity scored one run in the top of the fifth, Twinsburg answered with one of their own. Mayfield Wildcats Varsity scored when Robbie Pattie singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run. Twinsburg then answered when Kimmel drew a walk, scoring one run.
Mayfield Wildcats Varsity took the lead for good with four runs in the third inning. In the third Cope doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring three runs and Pattie drew a walk, scoring one run.
Mayfield Wildcats Varsity tallied seven runs in the second inning. Samuel Rapposelli, Santino Fontana, Canitia, Cope, and Corey Razum each drove in runs during the inning.
Twinsburg scored five runs in the second inning. The big inning for Twinsburg came thanks to walks by Bussey and Kimmel, a groundout by Barnes, and a double by Bryant.
Devin Sperling was the winning pitcher for Mayfield Wildcats Varsity. Sperling surrendered two runs on three hits over three innings, striking out five. Dennis Vicchiarelli threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Kimmel took the loss for Twinsburg. Kimmel lasted one inning, allowing five hits and seven runs while striking out two.
