An early lead helped Mayfield Wildcats Varsity defeat St. Edward 6-5 on Saturday. Mayfield Wildcats Varsity scored on a sacrifice fly by Riley Canitia in the first inning and a double by Austin Ziance in the second inning.
Mayfield Wildcats Varsity pulled away for good with three runs in the second inning. In the second Ziance doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring three runs.
Raymond Kristosik earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound for Mayfield Wildcats Varsity. The lefty allowed six hits and three runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out seven. Matthew Osler, Santino Fontana, and Patrick Dinnen all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory. Osler recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Mayfield Wildcats Varsity.
Ilieuski took the loss for St. Edward. The hurler surrendered four runs on one hit over two innings, striking out two.
Robbie Pattie, William Guzzo, and Ziance all had one hit to lead Mayfield Wildcats Varsity. Mayfield Wildcats Varsity was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Joshua Cope made the most plays with 11. Mayfield Wildcats Varsity stole nine bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Guzzo led the way with four.
