Mayfield Wildcats Varsity defeated Brunswick 8-5 on Monday after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at five with Mayfield Wildcats Varsity batting in the top of the seventh when Austin Ziance singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
Brunswick scored three runs in the third inning, but Mayfield Wildcats Varsity still managed to pull out the victory. The big inning for Brunswick came thanks to doubles by Dye and Kidd.
Mayfield Wildcats Varsity fired up the offense in the second inning, when Samuel Rapposelli singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
After Mayfield Wildcats Varsity scored one run in the top of the sixth, Brunswick answered with one of their own. Mayfield Wildcats Varsity scored when William Guzzo grounded out, scoring one run. Brunswick then answered when Kross singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Santino Fontana earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound for Mayfield Wildcats Varsity. The righty allowed two hits and one run over two innings, striking out one and walking one.
Petrowski took the loss for Brunswick. Petrowski allowed four hits and six runs over two innings.
